In an exhibition, it is extremely rare for us to feel that the physical well-being of the artist is endangered by us, the viewers, or that we could do harm, however unintentionally and indirectly, to the person whose work we are viewing. Andrea Schneemeier has dislodged us all from the position of passive observer while making the interaction comprehensible on the most direct, elemental level: when we step into the installation’s space, mapped out by sensors, our presence, disturbingly, upsets the apparent peaceful order and deprives us of the observer’s simple enjoyment of the work.
